Another busy week with rentals! We would like to say a special thanks to Tara Cabatingan family and friends who spent the 4th of July holiday at Casa Fuego! They came to Playa Negra from San Jose, they manage a beautiful resort in the Arenal area. If you have not checked out their site we suggest you do so now: http://www.thespringscostarica.com We know we’re going to be booking our stay with them at The Springs as soon as we slow down. The Cabatingan’s and crew had a great time and enjoyed watching the surfers who took advantage of the huge south swell. We would also like to say thanks for taking the time to pick up trash along the beach, we appreciate that very much. They ended up with five or six bags of trash, most of it was plastic from the beachfront. Thanks again, Tara and crew!!! We also have the Farbers from San Diego, California staying with us at Casa Somos Unos, they are regulars here and having a great time as usual. We’re glad you are here! July 9th, 2009 |

There’s a Silver Lining in Costa Rica’s Gold CoastAT the heart of the real estate wave in Guanacaste province in Costa Rica in 2006, some 20 residential projects had either broken ground, been announced or been approved. About 350,000 visitors landed that year at the regional airport in Liberia, quadrupling the figure from 2003, its first year of international flights. In 2006, $131.4 million was spent on personal property sales in Guanacaste, according to the Central Bank of Costa Rica, and Alexander Porras, an economist for the bank, estimated that most of that was in second homes. Costa Rica can weather economic storm, says former finance chiefCosta Rica is in a good position to weather the global recession that many believe will last well into next year, says noted economist and former Finance Minister Fernando Naranjo. Speaking yesterday before a Union of Private Sector Chambers and Associations luncheon, Naranjo said the country’s economic position is considerably better than it was during the severe economic crisis of the late 1970s and 1980s. “We won’t have a crisis,” said Naranjo. “We are in a very solvent economic situation, with a budget surplus of about 1 percent of GDP.” He said growth will slow to about 2.5 percent, as will foreign investment, but the government can stimulate the economy by spending the surplus on social programs and infrastructure.
